TRANSITION INTO TECH
What are GT 1000 & GT 2000 seminars?
GT 1000 & GT 2000 are one-credit hour, letter graded seminar courses offered in fall, spring, and summer semesters. GT 1000 is for incoming first-year students, and GT 2000 is for incoming transfer students. These courses are committed to supporting the successful transition and experience of new Georgia Tech students. Each section meets one hour per week and is taught by either an academic faculty member, credentialed staff member, or an administrator with an advanced degree. All sections utilize successful, experienced students as peer facilitators, referred to as 'Team Leaders,' who work closely with the instructor to promote small group interaction and offer advice and support to first-year and transfer students.
Did you know...? Over 60% of Georgia Tech students have taken a transition seminar.
Note: The Spring 2025 GT 1000 and GT 2000 seminars schedule is now available. Enroll during your registration period.

Nadia Osmani, GT 1000 Student
I love everything about this program and what it offers to first-year and transfer students!…One of my favorite things about this program is the resources we get to introduce students to and having the opportunity to build classroom community while fostering new connections!
Darsha Krishnamurthi, Team Leader
One of my favorite things about the program is how the class is tailored to making sure students feel comfortable and supported during their transition into Tech. There are so many important tips and pieces of advice that I wish someone had given me coming in, and GT 2000 gives me an opportunity to be that guide for other students.
Trinity Shao, GT 2000 Student
I wanted to find a community of other transfer students...to be able to have people to ask questions to and ask for help and just have a support system.
Erik Johnson, Instructor
GT1000 has been an integral part of my experience as a staff member at Tech. Being an instructor has allowed me a different way to impact students and has provided me a glimpse into curriculum planning, and pedagogy. This experience has aided in my knowledge of higher education and has been invaluable in my development and knowledge of the higher education landscape.
